A mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several other parts of the country on Thursday afternoon, shortly after 4:15 pm. The initial tremor prompted brief concern, and the magnitude was not immediately known.
Subsequent readings, however, confirmed the quake measured 3.6 on the Richter scale.
No reports of casualties or damage surfaced right away. According to the Meteorological Department, the epicenter was located in Kaliakair, Gazipur—approximately 22 kilometers from Dhaka—at a depth of 10 kilometers.
This incident follows a stronger earthquake that rattled Dhaka and the rest of the country last Friday (November 21). That quake, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in Narsingdi, caused significant panic and resulted in the deaths of 10 people, including children, and injuries to more than six hundred others.
Narsingdi suffered the highest number of fatalities, with five confirmed deaths. Four people died in Dhaka and one in Narayanganj. Many residents leapt from buildings in fear during the tremor, while several structures tilted or developed visible cracks.
